3 Reasons Why You Should Practice Mindfulness

Namaste!

I've mentioned Mindfulness on here a lot and that particular word would've probably gone off the top of our heads before, but I'm hoping it doesn't anymore.

There is no better time to practice this, to practice conscious actions, thoughts and gestures.

As you may well know, meditation is a practice that requires a good deal of Awareness to make sure it's practiced effectively. Meditation doesn't just mean sitting down in an uncomfortable posture and concentrating. You can practice meditation through movement. The simple act of acknowledging the movement of physical postures you have adopted, is meditation.

But I'm not here to talk about Meditation! So stick around.

Here are some reasons why, I believe, YOU should start practicing Mindfulness

1. Hygiene & Health

In the first few months of the Pandemic, there was a huge shortage of Sanitisers! We have all gone through many-a bottle of sanitisers, whether we trust them to do their job or not. We might remember to always sanitise when get back from a grocery run or receive a package from our delivery partner. But how have we suddenly forgotten the gravity of this virus? Where have all the social distancing norms gone? Not many grocery stores and public spaces still ensure that people are following these rules. For the sake of your health, your family's and also vulnerable strangers, we HAVE to consciously practice these rules. Does it really take so much effort to wear a mask and ensure that you are distanced from others? Remember the times you hated waiting in line full of sweaty strangers? Well, this is the time for us all to not have to experience that again!

Carry little bottles of sanitisers, make sure you wash and sanitise all store-bought products, ensure your hands are washed, sanitise your gadgets and please practice social distancing! There's no avoiding this situation!

2. Minimising The Negativity

The pandemic is bad enough as it is. There is no good reason why you should feed your mind with negative thoughts, especially if they're about yourself! The very perspective of life has changed. It has put many of us in very difficult situations, but we have to learn to adapt. Take consolation in the fact that you're not the only one. Try not to practice the blame game. We have to stop saying and questioning "If not for the pandemic..." A lot has been lost, but I'm sure there is more to gain as well. Learn from this situation how to better yourself, after all the only person to take care of yourself is YOU. Minimise the amount of negative thought, I know it's easier said than done, but I'm sure if we put our minds to it we CAN. Try noticing what you say to others and how you say it too.

Catch yourself every time you think or say anything negative.

3. Mental Wellbeing

Mental health is so SO important at this time! If you have not given importance to your Mental health before this, then it's high time to start! You might be feeling lethargic, unable to commit to small tasks like waking up in the morning or eating. All of that is related directly to your mental state at this point in time. If there's one thing you should start practicing, it is making the conscious effort to improve your mental health. You might be unable to find the motivation to work out or you may notice your body is not cooperating with you and you've made sure you've got your physical health checked by a professional, this is precisely because your body is the mirror image of your mind. Here, Mindfulness is making the effort everyday towards your mental health.

If some of you would like to find some helpful Meditation videos, I'm linking some here.

I've personally practiced both of these, and I do think they're effective. I find that 10 minute videos are easy to do and you can notice change in your ability to perform them gets easier over a shorter period of time. Try practicing one of these for a week or two before you try the other. It is important to repeat meditation videos so you can train your mind to achieve higher levels of consciousness and concentration. I typically do these before my Yoga Practice!

Hope this helps!
